![]() OSS is 2-axis of stabilization, IBIS is 5-axis stabilization, (which is why it helps even for people shooting video with 3-axis gimbals and adds further stabilization to OSS) Surely it's only a 'must' for video if you don't have any of the OSS lenses available (on the rare occasions I shoot video I use the 18-55 kit lens and all is well). I like the new features that come with the a6400, and not that this is a new feature, but I want silent shutter. Very true about IBIS, it’s only been around since the early 2000’s? I’m thinking the image quality between the a6000 and a6400 is not going to be that significant, besides when shooting higher ISO. and with IBIS it will be quite desirable for those who like to shoot in lower light - and a must for those shooting video. (photographers managed without IBIS for decades)- and the Sigma's are nice and bright so you can shoot in lower light as well.īut an update to the a6500 is no doubt coming. If you shoot daylight and seldom have the need to drop to lower shutter speeds, have steady hands - and have little desire to shoot video, you'd probably be ok with the 6400 without IBIS. Hey there! Would you recommend upgrading to the a6400 from the a6000 for stills only with the Sigma trifecta lenses? Or would you wait for the successor to the a6500 with IBIS? It's also odd because all of my other lenses are simply exceptional with AF on the a6400, as you'd expect with the upgraded AF system. When I reviewed this lens on my a6000 a few years ago, it seemed fine then, and while I had the occasional missed focus that was inexplicable, it was never like this. I haven't put it on any of my other e-mount bodies yet, which I will try tonight. So: is this something with this particular copy of this lens, or something with the programming of the lens as a whole (so exchanging would yield the same results?) If I'm shooting people, using the tracking AF with Eye AF, it is absolutely dead-on accurate: just nails the eyes, and it does fine when shooting more distant subjects, even stopped down.but closer up when relying just on the normal AF system, it misses a LOT. ![]() I have a ton of experience shooting with wide aperture lenses, including things like the Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 on full frame, 50mm f/1.4s, 85mm f/1.4s, etc.I'm not shifting my position, nor doing anything that would induce error in these situations. However, with a fixed focus point, most notable things with fine detail like text or such, it will miss around 40-50% of the time. If it were consistent, it would be one thing, but it's not. I'm having an issue with focus on the Sigma 30, where focus accuracy at f/1.4 with shooting static non-human subjects, where it will simply focus to the incorrect spot. The a6400 isn't my primary body (A73), but I will use it as a backup and for longer lens work, along with the occasional 'small kit' type stuff. ![]() So, with the sales on the Sigma f/1.4 primes, I decided to pick up a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for my new a6400.
